I just found out that in Japan, they have cafes where you can buy tea and 'borrow a cat' from the cat section to pat while you drink tea and read a book.

This is probably about two weeks too late, but it just goes together so well.

The one where I was excited to get a Twitter Follower by begging for one on the air, and then said I had to get up early the next day because I was super excited about Follow Friday, then realized, off the air, that it was the anniversary of 9/11.

It is so popular in Japan that there are apparently restaurants with an "Oh! Mikey" theme.

I guess this show is airing on G4 at 12:30 a.m. now or something, so maybe it isn't actually good.

Japanese indie rock also has it's sad-bastard hipsters like Tomovsky, which so far does not seem to have a product tie-in (unless maybe someone is selling penguins).



These two songs made me relatively pleased with Japanese music, but then surfing Youtube for more of the same ended up in disaster. JMusic is generally so, so, so sugarcoated, or maybe it's just that only the lamest pop bands bother putting music on Youtube.

But I did find this, which makes me very excited to get one:

Does anyone remember "The Apprentice" with Donald Trump? He would send these guys on adventures in capitalism and then when they failed he would fire them.

I was thinking about that because I remember, in the second season, he would say "You're fired!" and make a hand gesture like a cobra(1). Also, "You're fired!" was written on a lot of stuff, like T-shirts and bumper stickers.

I kind of remember an advertisement for the show where they actually used a cobra animation and asked "Who will the cobra strike next?" but it's not on Youtube.

Does anyone else remember this period in American history, when Donald Trump firing people was a major pop cultural event?

Then he stopped being popular and had a public feud with Rosie O'Donnell.

Well anyway, I have decided that it's high time to get nostalgic about 2003, so I am going to tell people they are fired a lot more for a few days, and make my hand do that thing. Like you are a mongoose and we are at war.
